COROLLA WILD HORSES
Corolla is well known for the wild horses that once roamed the dunes and marshes here. While the horses still reside in the area, they are now protected behind two sound-to-sea fences away from visitors and car traffic but can still be seen from time to time frolicking on the beaches of the 4×4 area. The historic Whalehead Club, built in 1922 as former hunting residence for a wealthy family, it is now a museum open to visitors eager to learn of its rich past.

CURRITUCK BEACH LIGHTHOUSE
Climbing to the top of the 158’ tower of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse is a must for all visitors to the area. This historic structure, one of five lighthouses erected along the northern Outer as beacons of light to sailors for well over a century, is worth every one of the 214 steps you must take to see the panoramic view.

OUTER BANKS CENTER FOR WILDLIFE EDUCATION

CURRITUCK BANKS NATIONAL ESTUARINE
Adjacent to the Villages at Ocean Hill community is the Currituck Banks National Estuarine with a sanctuary boardwalk, providing a nice introduction to Corolla’s tranquility and natural beauty. The handicap-accessible wooden plank walkway weaves through the marine forest to the shores of Currituck Sound and provides educational information about the area on posted signage along the way.
